D A Nelson

So, what have I been up to lately? Well, apart from rounds of visits by midwives, health visitors, family and friends, I’ve been attempting to lead as near normal a life as one can with a new baby and toddler to look after. Thankfully hubby is around for another ten weeks to help me (hurrah for new legislation allowing dads 11 weeks unpaid leave off!).

We decorated the Christmas tree tonight and my two-year-old daughter was bouncing with excitement. I’ve never seen her quite so hyper (she’s normally quite energetic at the best of times anyway!). She jumped around our living room shouting “It’s Christmas time! It’s Christmas time!”. Miraculously, it was suddenly bedtime and she went up to be without another whimper (although she did try to take her Christmas stocking up to “wear in bed”!). That child is mad!

Anyway, we’re looking forward to the festive season. I bought all my Christmas gifts online in October - before the arrival of baby 2 and to avoid the sheer horror of Christmas shopping (I hate shopping at the best of times without adding Christmas into the equation…there is nothing spiritual about fighting your way through Christmas shoppers in Glasgow in November or December, I always end up stressed and hating anyone that gets in my way (I have no patience)). Instead, I now have a couple of relaxed weeks to get everything wrapped (whilst daughter is in bed out of the way…she has a habit of poking into parcels to see what’s in them).

Final piece of smugness…I spent two nights last week writing up Christmas cards. They are all posted although now I’m stressing that I didn’t put the correct postage on the cards going to immediate family members as these cards are slightly bigger than the rest and I am sure (having seen it on LK Today this morning) will not fit in the ‘normal size’ category for the Post Office (in case you’re not aware of it, the Post Office has brough in new rules ref postage, how much you pay and sizes of post. Stress, stress. It was all so easy before).

Anyway, writing cards and envelopes is a chore I loathe doing every year, although I do like to send cards to everyone and anyone, so I suppose it’s my own fault. This year, I decided to set up a database of labels so that at least I wouldn’t have to write the envelopes. Unfortunately I’m a bit computer illiterate when it comes to that, spent ages typing up all the addresses only to find the mail merge doesn’t work. Sigh. Maybe next year!

Anyway, am off to write some more of book 2. Hope you all have a great Christmas and a Happy New Year.
