Hiya! Things are really hotting up for the DarkIsle launch which is taking place at the Mitchell Library in Glasgow on September 10. I’ve been busy checking press releases and guest lists for the event, but all the hard work is being done by the team at Strident Publishing. This is the name of the company that’s publishing DarkIsle and they’ve all been working hard to make sure the launch is a success.
The Mitchell Library was chosen as the place to launch DarkIlse because it’s a beautiful library and is the place where I wrote and planned a good bit of the book. I used to sit in the library’s cafe, drinking tea and eating biscuits, and jotting down ideas for the story. It’s very close to the place where I work, so I go there in my lunch hour.
I still go along to the cafe…which is now in a different bit of the library and much better than before (hello to Marilyn, Iris, Jackie and the team!). I either sit in the cafe bit and plan DarkIsle’s sequel (whilst eating a delicious cheese pannini and drinking tea) or I will use one of the library’s PCs, which are positioned next to the cafe, to write the book. The sequel - which doesn’t have a name yet - is currently in the first draft stage…I’m on chapter 19 now and I hope it will be published next year. Anyway, I’ll tell you more about the next book as I go along.
Back to the launch…I’m delighted to say that in the afternoon of the launch, children from Whiteinch and St Patrick’s Primaries in Glasgow will be coming along for a reading of DarkIsle. I’m looking forward to meeting all of them. In the evening, I’m going to do a reading for lots of invited guests including some of my family and friends. Should be a good event!
