D A Nelson

Am feeling quite tired just now thanks to being the mum of a new baby and a nearly three-year-old. I think parents should get awards for their endeavours with their offspring. Awards could have names like ‘Most Time Spent Awake Without Yawning or Closing Your Eyes For Five Minutes’; ‘Quickest Nappy Change Before the Yellow Fountain Started’; ‘Number of Times You Avoided Being Covered in Sick’; ‘Best Child Ignorer with Special Prize for Pretending to be Asleep So Dad Will Get Child’.

Anyway, on the book front, there is some news. Am appearing at the Helensburgh Moving Pen Festival which starts this weekend. I’ll be at Helensburgh Library on Feb 2 reading from DarkIsle, talking about myself and generally having as much of a laugh as possible. Am concerned I’ll be talking to myself or the books on the shelves, so if anyone lives near Helensburgh and fancies coming down to the library, I’ll be there from 10.30am!

I’m also doing a few schools events as well: two schools and three libraries. I’m really looking forward to it and meeting all the youngsters who attend the sessions. My first session is next Tuesday at Bonhill Primary School, followed by Carleith Primary School on the 5th, Gorbals Library and Castlemilk Library on the 7th and Govanhill Library on the 15th. Anyone wanting me to come and do a talk can email me on d-a-nelson@tiscali.co.uk

Cheers

Hi Aimee! How are you? Another Neilstonian! I loved living in Neilston…it’s a great place to grow up. I was never away from the library or the swimming pool when I was your age. Glad you liked the book, it’s always nice to hear people like it. There is going to be a sequel and it’s due out at the end of this year. Am currently working on it and it features most of the characters in DarkIsle. It doesn’t yet have a title, but that’s always the last thing I decide upon. Anyway, must go. Thanks for putting a comment on my website. Dawn xx

Thank tou very much for replying to my comment! I love the Library and the Swimming-pool too!!! I can’t wait for the sequel to “DarkIsle”. It would be great if you ended it with Morag becoming queen or something…!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Aimee. That’s an interesting suggestion, but not quite what happens. In the second book, Morag starts to learn more about herself and her parents, that’s all I’m going to say on it. I’m aiming to get book 2 out in autumn this year. I’m just finishing my first draft (am on the last chapter), but I’ll say no more…don’t want to spoil it for anyone.
